Silk and cashmere
Silk and cashmere are the finest natural fibers that are known to make the highest quality fabrics. When spun together they become the most lustrous and soft fabric that can be used all year around. Silk is traditionally known as the fabric of kings and queens. It provides a cooling sensation during hotter months. When combined with the cashmere it keeps the warmth in the colder days.
HAIR VS CASHMERE
Cashmere comes from goats and it's 6 times thinner than human hair. Its average diameter is 14-15 microns which makes it the softest fiber on market. These special softest fibers come from goats’ undercoats. Cashmere is basically a goat's winter guard against cold wind and temperatures of the region.
CASHMERE VS WOOL
Cashmere fibers have internal air chambers which act as a natural heat regulating insulation. Cashmere is 8 times warmer than wool. For instance, Mongolian winter reaches about -40 Celsius in the winter which makes goats to grow finest and warmest undercoats to protect them against the cold weather. Unique characteristics of cashmere helps goats to stay warm.
Cashmere goat and ethical cashmere
Once in a year only in springtime (molting season), Mongolian Nomadic Herders hand comb their goats to get 150-200 grams of cashmere. It takes 3-5 goats to produce enough cashmere to make an average size sweater. Mongolian herders handcomb their goats’ cashmere once the winter is over. It is like helping their goats to take off their winter clothes.
Handcombing is the most humane way to collect cashmere.
